Data Analyst (SQL & Power BI) – Government Project
Job Description
The Data Analyst role in the West Denver area is an on-site, project-based position focused on SQL and Power BI. You will partner with municipal departments to map workflows, audit legacy databases, and build interactive dashboards. This temporary assignment may offer internal opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate and translate: Partner directly with non-technical department heads to understand reporting challenges and translate business needs into technical database specifications.
- Modernize and automate: Map legacy ADG system tables and convert static, text-heavy reports into interactive Power BI dashboards.
- Data extraction: Write precise, efficient SQL queries (including joins, subqueries, and views) to extract and clean complex datasets.
- Ensure integrity: Audit and validate new reports against source systems to ensure accuracy and document workflows for future internal users.
Requirements
- Strong SQL Skills: Proven experience writing relational database queries to extract, clean, and manipulate backend data.
- Power BI Expertise: Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining interactive visual dashboards (experience with SSRS is also acceptable).
- Excellent Communication: Comfort interviewing business users, managing stakeholder expectations, and presenting technical data in a simple, visual format.
- Extras / Pluses: Prior experience in local government/public sector, SSRS experience, or direct experience navigating ADG (American Data Group / Vantage ERP) is highly preferred.

Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Municipal Background Check: Must successfully pass a comprehensive municipal background check prior to being granted system and network access.
- Fingerprint and CJIS Clearance: Eligible to undergo a fingerprint-based criminal history check and obtain CJIS certification within the first 30 days of placement, as access to sensitive public safety or court data may be required. Fingerprinting and clearance processing times apply prior to full system access.
