Job Description

Join Travelers in Hartford, on site, as a Data Engineer II and help build the data pipelines that contextualize information across the enterprise. Our Data Engineering team enables AI, machine learning, and business intelligence with reliable, accessible data. Responsibilities

  • Build and operationalize sophisticated data solutions, troubleshoot issues, apply transformations, and propose data cleansing and quality approaches.
  • Design complex data architectures to support analytical initiatives.
  • Evaluate diverse data sources to determine value and applicability for analytics, recommending data to be included in processes.
  • Incorporate core data management practices, including data governance, security, and quality.
  • Collaborate across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytics environment.
  • Analyze data and systems, assess and resolve defects and incidents, and implement corrective actions.
  • Test data movement, transformation logic, and data components to ensure reliability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience.
  • Eight years of related experience.
  • Expertise with AWS and Snowflake migrations.
  • Proficiency in writing, tuning, and supporting MongoDB queries, with experience in managing MongoDB databases.
  • Strong command of modern software engineering practices, cloud platforms, programming languages, and related tools.
  • Ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, release in small batches, and balance tradeoffs effectively.
  • Demonstrated domain knowledge and the ability to understand technical concepts and industry trends across related systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to build durable solutions and innovate for issue resolution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with a collaborative approach to working with team members and business partners.
  • Ability to lead teammates and foster a safe environment for learning and growth as engineers.
  • Proven self-motivation in identifying opportunities and tracking team progress.

Compensation and Location

The annual base salary range for this role is $126,500 to $208,700. Actual compensation is determined by factors including scope, complexity, location, skills, education, credentials, and experience. This position is based onsite in Hartford, CT.
