Job Description
Meta is hiring a Data Engineer for the Teen & Family Experience (TFE) team within Meta’s Central Youth organization. The role focuses on creating large-scale data artifacts, metrics, dashboards, and data models that support measurement for teen experiences and parental-controls features.
Role scope
This position involves scoping measurement across a significantly expanded parental-controls and teen-experience surface. The work targets teen-facing features including productive pauses, the non-personalized feed option, nighttime mode, and school mode. Measurement will cover both newly launched features and enhancements to existing capabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end delivery for each metric, including logging, staging data, building aggregate datasets, supporting the pipeline behind each metric, and enabling dashboards that present results.
- Handle varying ownership splits across metrics, depending on the specific feature and workflow.
- For some metrics, coordinate with teams that log and stage data (for example, using Instagram or Facebook handles), while you build the metric definitions and dashboards.
- For other metrics, perform logging and provide outputs for downstream teams to use.
- Participate in decisions about which team members take which components, based on availability, technical skills across teams, and domain knowledge.
Data engineering and analytics impact
- Guide teams by building effective data artifacts, including datasets and visualizations, to answer key analytical questions.
- Improve existing systems by refining logging approaches, designing scalable data models, and enabling efficient analytical workflows.
- Ensure data security and quality while recommending architecture, development approaches, and data management standards for complex analytical needs.
Product leadership
- Use data to influence product development by identifying opportunities and addressing upcoming challenges.
- Help ensure products deliver value for users and businesses by prioritizing projects and driving solutions that respond to emerging needs.
Communication and influence
- Translate analysis into data-driven storytelling rather than simply presenting raw results.
- Provide clear insights and recommendations to convince and influence partners.
- Build credibility through structured communication, clarity of reasoning, and consistent delivery of strategic support.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of experience where the primary responsibility involves working with data.
- 4+ years of experience with SQL, ETL, data modeling, and at least one programming language (e.g., Python, C++, C#, Scala).
Technologies
- SQL
- ETL
- Data modeling
- Python, C++, C#, Scala
Preferred qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D degree in a STEM field.
- Experience integrating AI tools to optimize or redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (such as efficiency gains or quality improvements).
- Experience with responsible and ethical AI practices, including risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality and accuracy reviews.
- Evidence of ongoing AI skill development (such as prompt/context engineering and agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies.
Location and compensation
- Location: San Francisco, CA (onsite)
- Compensation: USD 147,000 - 208,000 per year
