Data Scientist
Job Description
Independent data scientist role supporting private equity investment decisions through applied data science and machine learning.
Responsibilities
- Build predictive models and proprietary analytics from large datasets using advanced queries, data filters, and visualization dashboards.
- Translate data findings into actionable insights for stakeholders to inform strategic decisions.
- Lead end-to-end analytical projects from concept to deployment and monitoring.
- Incorporate alternative data sources to algorithmically identify top investment opportunities for clients.
- Perform competitive analyses using diverse data sources to assess investment viability.
- Leverage ground-truth data from portfolio companies to improve outcomes such as automated lead generation and enrichment, forecasting, and churn modeling.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a highly quantitative field (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, etc.)
- Experience with machine learning or adjacent areas (natural language processing, random forests, linear regression, predictive modeling concepts)
- Proficiency in Python programming
- Experience handling terabyte-scale datasets, uncovering patterns, and collaborating with managers to develop models
- Interest in venture capital and private equity and a preference for data-driven decision making
- Location requirement: on-site three days per week at the client office in New York City
