Job Description

Applied Materials is hiring a Data Scientist for the JOLT Data Science team to build end-to-end AI solutions spanning supply chain and service operations.

Responsibilities

  • Partner in project teams to develop analytical models, algorithms, and automated processes, from research through production deployment
  • Build and refine machine learning models across the full lifecycle, including development, deployment, and iteration
  • Deliver GenAI and LLM workstreams such as fine-tuning models and creating embedding-based search systems
  • Create AI-driven prototypes that support and enhance business operations
  • Design GenAI architectures with stakeholders, including plugin-based solutions and custom GenAI application builds
  • Apply data mining and machine learning to generate insights from historical and real-time data (for example: material forecast, demand forecast, and pattern recognition)
  • Interface with stakeholders to analyze requirements and special requests; derive insights and collaborate with business units to define actions and KPIs
  • Find opportunities to improve forecast accuracy and provide business insights to Service Supply Chain leadership
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as Material Planning, Field Operations, Inventory Management, NPI, Production Demand Planning, Reliability Engineering, and Service Campaigns to gather data and identify key drivers impacting future demand for Service Parts and Accessories

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in a quantitative field (examples: Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Operations Research)
  • 3-5 years of industry experience in applied machine learning or related AI work
  • Hands-on experience building GenAI-focused applications such as agents, reasoning workflows, or RAG
  • Solid understanding of how large language models are architected and operated
  • Experience implementing models in common Deep Learning frameworks, including PyTorch, Jax, or TensorFlow
  • Experience with MLOps, including model deployment, versioning, and performance monitoring in production environments
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, plus tools such as scikit-learn and forecasting libraries
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and command of machine learning concepts
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills to simplify complexity and influence executive stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiate alignment across others

Salary

  • USD 170,000 - 234,000 per year
