Data Scientist II
Job Description
Public Storage is seeking a Data Scientist II to serve as the primary data science partner for a business area, owning production modeling and end-to-end model execution in close collaboration with stakeholders.
Role Focus
The Data Scientist II will be the go-to data scientist for one business area, such as customer and revenue, capital allocation, or operations. The role builds and maintains production models, supports business planning, runs experiments, and manages the full lifecycle of modeling deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Build and own production models covering areas such as pricing and elasticity, promotions, marketing effectiveness, demand forecasting, retention, lifetime value, and recommendations.
- Develop production-grade solutions using Python and SQL, applying LLMs, embeddings, and RAG when they are the right approach.
- Partner with the business area by joining planning efforts, turning ambiguous questions into well-scoped problems, and communicating results as decisions and dollars rather than model metrics.
- Design and analyze experiments that influence real-world outcomes, including A/B tests, holdouts, and quasi-experiments.
- Define success metrics prior to launch and report results with honesty and clarity after experiments conclude.
- Reuse and scale modeling efforts by working from shared customer and real estate data, using certified metrics, and adding reusable models to a shared catalog.
- Support team capability through mentoring analysts and junior scientists via code review and pairing, and stepping in to back up a teammate’s business area when needed.
- Own the full model lifecycle, including versioning, retraining, drift monitoring, and documentation, ensuring governance requirements are met before deployment.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a STEM or quantitative field such as statistics, computer science, economics, engineering, or applied mathematics.
- 3+ years in a production data science role, or 2+ years with a Master’s degree, or 1+ year with a PhD.
- Strong SQL and Python experience in production environments, beyond notebooks.
- Applied statistics using both frequentist and Bayesian frameworks, including experimental design and causal inference.
- Evidence of shipping models that produced measurable business outcomes.
- Experience with a cloud data platform; Google Cloud and BigQuery are preferred, with Snowflake, AWS, or Azure also acceptable.
- The ability to scope ambiguous business questions and explain uncertainty and trade-offs to non-technical partners.
Technologies
Python, SQL, LLMs, embeddings, RAG, Google Cloud, BigQuery, Snowflake, AWS, Azure.
What You’ll Do

- Act as the data science partner for your assigned business area.
- Run experiments that change how the organization operates.
- Build once and reuse models across teams through shared assets.
- Grow the team through mentoring, pairing, and code review.
- Maintain the full model lifecycle, from governance through ongoing monitoring.
Success Indicators
- Business partners rely on your models on a weekly basis.
- Your experiments lead to changes in company decisions and actions, not only improved knowledge.
- Junior scientists improve through consistent code review and collaboration.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of production data science experience in pricing, revenue management, marketing, real estate, retail, or consumer analytics.
- Experience with the modern ML stack, including scikit-learn, XGBoost/LightGBM, PyTorch, PyMC, Prophet, and experiment tracking with MLflow or Vertex AI.
- MLOps experience, such as model registries, CI/CD, scheduled retraining, and monitoring.
- dbt and orchestration tools such as Airflow or Cloud Composer.
- Hands-on experience with LLM applications, vector search, RAG, or agentic AI workflows.
Workplace and Location
