Job Description
The Finance and Accounting Special Projects Data Analytics Supervisor role at UPS, based in Atlanta, GA with a hybrid work arrangement, focuses on supporting and maintaining finance and project processes tied to mergers and acquisitions or dispositions, while applying data analytics to drive diligence, valuation, and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Support and maintain finance and project processes associated with mergers and acquisitions or disposal transactions.
- Assist in evaluating and extracting financial data using specialized tools such as Alteryx, Oracle Cloud, Excel, Projects, Copilot agents, and other data tools to respond to data queries.
- Set up processes to streamline data analysis, record to report entry preparation, and project management activities.
- Analyze and interpret data trends and reporting trends to enhance the value of M&A accounting and financial diligence processes.
- Assist in accounting processes and the preparation of consolidated financial analyses, reports, and journal entries using data analytics.
- Aid in the preparation and review of project budgets and forecasts, including purchase orders and cost analyses.
- Review and assess data and perform variance analysis on financial information.
- Periodically research and document accounting treatments of transactions in accordance with GAAP.
- Perform related accounting controls and processes and assist with disclosure requirements.
- Engage in other project management and organizational tasks while collaborating cross-functionally with teams inside and outside UPS.
- Apply problem solving and finance knowledge to identify insights and simplify processes; communicate findings clearly to senior audiences.
- Use statistical and data relationship knowledge to create data visualizations, dashboards, and reports.
- Assist with desktop diligence to identify inorganic growth opportunities and analyze data from target companies to understand current business and finance processes.
- Evaluate business plans and synergy estimates to create databooks that facilitate discussions with UPS leadership and potential targets.
- Maintain and organize records to ensure project files are accessible to the broader team.
- Calculate deal specific financial metrics to assess valuation reasonableness and assist with deal overviews for senior management.
- Analyze non-public information to identify and summarize material findings; organize diligence activities for remote and on-site assessments.
- Coordinate with cross-functional diligence teams to meet timelines and ensure findings are reviewed and summarized.
- Coordinate with external data room providers to ensure services are adequate and accessible to users.
- Update the valuation model throughout diligence and post-diligence to track valuation impacts from risks and synergies.
- Maintain data and documents for accessibility across commercial, legal, and retention purposes.
- Assist in creating and monitoring final closing and post signing checklists to meet contractual conditions.
- Support cross-functional transaction communications and ensure proper hand-offs to the integration team.
- Assist with month-end close and account consolidation to meet reporting deadlines; reconcile balance sheet accounts as needed.
- Provide supporting documentation to external auditors during audits and apply GAAP based data analysis methods with recommendations for improvements.
- Address project performance issues per UPS policies to motivate and foster teamwork; manage the project plan to address risks and ensure timely completion.
- Collaborate globally in a hybrid office environment and coordinate live and virtual meetings to drive project results.

Requirements
- In-depth understanding of complex financial data and its implications; develops new financial analyses or business models and applies advanced concepts to support strategic direction.
- Generates reports in standard formats using basic software; ensures accuracy and completeness; identifies issues in report generation such as missing variables or incorrect data.
- Captures and documents precise information; learns subjects thoroughly; completes work with thoroughness and maintains organized files.
- Designs new report generation or data analysis processes; identifies emerging trends affecting information retrieval and reporting; establishes standards for report generation, maintenance, and distribution; writes queries for ad hoc reports and creates templates; automates queries with macros.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or an internationally comparable degree, preferred.
- Experience with SEC filings and reporting is desired.
- Experience with data analysis and project management tools strongly preferred.
- Experience in a Public Accounting Firm is desired.
- Experience with unique and challenging accounting projects is preferred.

- Internal Grade Level 20E.
