Gen AI Engineer - Python - Vice President
Job Description
As a senior GenAI Engineer within Citi’s Technology organization, you will help establish and implement new or revised application systems and programming activities in coordination with the broader Technology team. This role focuses on leading application systems analysis and programming, with an emphasis on scalable Python backend development and GenAI capabilities, including Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).
What you’ll do
- Partner with multiple management teams to support integration of functions, meet delivery goals, and identify system enhancements needed to deploy new products and improve processes.
- Resolve high-impact problems by evaluating complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards.
- Apply advanced application programming knowledge to ensure application design aligns with the overall architecture blueprint.
- Develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation based on a strong understanding of system flow.
- Build deep understanding of how business areas, including architecture and infrastructure, work together to achieve business goals.
- Perform in-depth analysis using interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions.
- Advise and coach mid-level developers and analysts, including allocating work as needed.
- Assess and manage risk in business decisions, with consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets by driving compliance with applicable laws and regulations, adhering to policy, applying ethical judgment, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency.
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and efficient Python code for Generative AI applications.
- Integrate and leverage GenAI-related APIs such as OpenAI and Gemini to build new features and products.
- Implement and optimize Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems to improve model performance and enable contextually relevant responses.
- Develop and deploy robust backend services using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data scientists, and engineers, to define requirements and deliver solutions.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to support code quality and reliability.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to best practices for quality.
- Optimize application performance, scalability, and security.
- (Optional) Work with cloud container orchestration services such as OpenShift or ECS for deploying and managing applications.
- (Optional) Have familiarity with Lightspeed (as referenced by Citi’s internal tool or technology).
Required skills
- Minimum 6 years of professional software development experience with a strong focus on Python.
- Proven hands-on experience with Generative AI concepts and technologies.
- Demonstrable experience working with GenAI-related APIs such as OpenAI and Gemini.
- Solid understanding and practical experience implementing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) systems.
- Expertise in at least one modern Python web framework: FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
- Strong understanding of software development best practices, including Git, testing, and CI/CD.
- Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
- Master’s degree preferred
Compensation & location
- Location: Tampa, FL (onsite)
- Salary range: USD 113,840 - 170,760 per year
- Time type: Full time
