Lead Data Analyst

The New Mexico State Police Innovation Bureau is actively expanding its Data Analytics Unit to meet growing analytical demands. This onsite, Albuquerque based role offers the chance to shape statewide law enforcement analytics, influence legislative and federal reporting, and lead advanced statistical work. The position is a term appointment funded by a special legislative appropriation, with potential transition to permanent funding. Compensation ranges from USD 40 to 64 per hour, and you will work closely with command staff and federal partners to drive data informed decisions.

Responsibilities

• Leverage existing NMSP systems to provide reports on law enforcement data.
• Design and implement statistical models and data visualizations to support agency command staff, the Legislature, and federal reporting partners.
• Develop and maintain performance measurement and accountability systems.
• Respond to research requests from agency management, legislators, and stakeholders.
• Lead methodology for FBI LEEP Use of Force reporting, PMT quarterly submissions, and DCRA federal compliance reporting.
• Provide technical guidance to junior DAU analysts.
• Serve as the unit's lead statistical resource and, where required, as the agency's chief statistician.
• Carry three standing reporting mandates: PMT quarterly legislative performance metrics, DCRA federal death-in-custody reporting, and FBI Use of Force via LEEP.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Psychology, Marketing Research, Sociology, Education, or related field.
• Nine (9) years of experience directly related to the position or in development, implementation and management of accountability systems, performance measures, data collection, analysis, statistical research, and/or advanced statistical modeling, or equivalent professional certification as determined by the hiring agency.
• Alternatively, a combination of education from an accredited institution and/or direct experience totaling thirteen (13) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
• Related professional certification as determined by the hiring agency.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and obtain a Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico.
• Subject to pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting; continued employment contingent upon remaining felony-free.

Working conditions

Regular work requires office attendance with occasional travel to district offices or legislative meetings. The role involves extended periods at a computer terminal analyzing large datasets in a standard office environment. This is a Term position funded through a legislative appropriation until the end of the appropriation, at which time it may transition to permanent funding.
