Lead Data Scientist

Responsibilities

• Leads analysis of complex and unstructured data using advanced statistical methods to support data driven decision making.
• Guides cross functional teams and delivers in depth insights for complex business problems by applying advanced analytics to both structured and unstructured data.
• Manages internal customer engagements on small to medium projects.
• Reports to the Manager of Data Science.
• Heads high priority, organization wide initiatives.
• Owns complex issues and escalates more difficult problems to senior staff as needed.
• Provides technical supervision and mentoring to data scientists and educates broader audiences on data science developments.
• Offers leadership, coaching, and mentoring within the team.
• Develops custom data models and algorithms tailored to datasets.
• Develops and applies models to key business metrics to improve operations and answer questions; presents findings to support decisions.
• Conducts research, analysis, and modeling on organizational data.
• Maintains models and assesses goodness of fit.
• Delivers in depth insights from structured and unstructured data using predictive modeling, data mining, visualization, pattern analysis, and other advanced analytics tools.
• Develops and tests hypotheses and communicates findings clearly to project and leadership teams.
• Collaborates with teams to identify and resolve data issues and improve efficiency, productivity, and scalability of data processes.
• Assists in evaluating data science vendors and tools.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to Memorial Hermann policies and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes professional growth by meeting continuing education requirements; supports department goals; serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
• Demonstrates commitment to compassionate, personalized experiences; models service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.

Requirements

• Minimum seven years of experience in data science.
• Experience in hospital settings, medical informatics, healthcare IT/finance/revenue cycle data management, or EHR data management is preferred.
• Strong business analytics, technical expertise, mathematical skills, and solid understanding of design and architecture principles.
• Deep understanding of machine learning techniques including clustering, decision trees, neural networks, with awareness of practical tradeoffs.
• Advanced statistics knowledge with practical application experience.
• Effective communication, requirements gathering, and data storytelling skills.
• Advanced knowledge of the data science project lifecycle.
• Proficient programming skills; working knowledge of statistical analysis tools.
• Strong problem solving, analytical reasoning, and decision making abilities.
• Adept at identifying information needs and performing problem analysis.
• Experience researching and resolving data issues in large, complex, and incomplete data landscapes.
• Strong project management skills; able to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
• Advanced SQL database management skills.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret results from advanced statistics.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for IT and business audiences.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment.
• Advanced knowledge of data science methods including time series forecasting, linear regression, A/B testing, statistical testing, and clustering.
