Principal/Sr Principal Software Engineer – Data Analyst

Northrop Grumman is seeking an on-site Principal or Senior Principal Software Engineer – Data Analyst in San Diego, CA to lead the development of enterprise data toolsets and pipelines that serve cross-discipline engineering teams. This role emphasizes leveraging large volumes of operational data to support the maintenance of communications subsystems and advanced payload technologies, with Top Secret clearance eligibility and SAP access requirements.

Responsibilities

• Direct a team of engineers to design, integrate, and sustain an enterprise-grade toolset that serves multiple engineering domains.
• Build toolchains to exploit large operational data sets for sustaining communications subsystems and advanced payload technologies.
• Collaborate in an engineering environment spanning Cloud & Application, Communications & Networking, Advanced Payload Technologies, Test Automation, DevSecOps, and Systems Test.
• Work with stakeholders to design, construct, and maintain mission-critical systems.
• Identify technical risks and opportunities and proactively craft mitigation plans.
• Present the team’s progress and accomplishments to senior leadership.
• Coordinate with the Product Owner to manage the product roadmap and communicate the impact of evolving customer requirements.
• Establish and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines to ensure stability and quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Continuously expand personal skills and maintain relevant certifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of related engineering experience; OR Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of related engineering experience; OR PhD in a STEM discipline with 1 year of related engineering experience.
• Level 4: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of related engineering experience; OR Master’s degree with 6 years; OR PhD with 4 years.
• Hands-on software development experience with Python, Java, C++, and/or MATLAB to enable data exploitation.
• Experience in at least two of the following areas: predictive trend analysis with AI/ML, building and maintaining complex databases across multiple IT infrastructures, working with database technologies such as Parquet, SQL, Neo4j, Elasticsearch, or MongoDB, container management tools (Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, Docker Swarm, Nomad, or Red Hat OpenShift), automation with Ansible, Bash, PowerShell, Puppet or Python, and performance monitoring tools like Elastic Stack or Grafana.
• Ability to interpret complex Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and drawings to build new data structures from raw sources.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills using Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira, Bitbucket).
• Solid Agile background with the ability to learn and contribute across multiple teams.
• Active U.S. Government Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation).
• Ability to obtain and maintain initial SAP access via a Program Access Request (PAR) within a reasonable timeframe to meet business needs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain subsequent SAP PARs after starting to fully support the statement of work.

• Primary level salary range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
• Secondary level salary range: $142,200.00 - $213,400.00
