Job Description
This role at UT Health Science Center at San Antonio places you at the intersection of data science and patient safety, where rigorous analysis fuels quality improvement and better outcomes. You will extract and scrutinize data from EMRs and other sources, turning complex information into actionable insights that inform strategies to enhance safety, efficiency, and care delivery. Responsibilities
- Apply statistical techniques and innovative analytical approaches to derive insights that support business objectives and drive change.
- Collaborate with Quality Improvement teams to define metrics and develop data‑driven solutions for clinical and operational initiatives.
- Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
- Assist with strategic intelligence through report writing, dashboard development, and front‑end scripting using PowerBI, SQL, and Excel.
- Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and reports to monitor key performance indicators related to quality improvement goals.
- Translate complex data into actionable insights for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders via visualizations, presentations, and written reports.
- Utilize statistical methods and modeling techniques to support evidence-based decision making.
- Integrate disparate data sources into a single, manipulable data set.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to acquire, validate, and integrate data for analysis.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge by reading technical journals and participating in seminars, user groups, and workshops to learn about new developments.
- Stay current with healthcare regulations and quality measurement standards (HEDIS, NCQA, CMS) and industry best practices.
- Provide mentoring and guidance on data tools to other departments as needed.
- Perform other related work as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as economics, finance, statistics, mathematics, actuarial sciences, operations research, data science, business analytics, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline.
- An advanced degree in business, science, finance, mathematics, economics, epidemiology, public health, or a related field is a plus and may substitute for some experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in data analysis, analytics, or functional business experience within the healthcare industry.
- Demonstrated experience supporting healthcare quality improvement efforts is highly desirable.
