Job Description

Stanford University invites applications for a Research Data Analyst on a 12-month fixed term basis, located onsite in Stanford, CA. This role supports defined research projects through experimental design, execution, and data analysis, and involves developing computational pipelines for iEEG data analysis while applying statistical methods in collaboration with the Principal Investigator. There may be opportunities to assist with data collection and study operations.

Responsibilities

  • Outline experimental strategies for research projects in laboratory or field settings, drawing on foundational scientific theory.
  • Execute experiments independently and maintain thorough records of procedures and outcomes.
  • Apply life science theories and analytical methods to interpret results and perform analyses; propose procedural or protocol adjustments in collaboration with a senior researcher.
  • Continuously review the literature to stay current with new techniques and apply insights to related research.
  • Assist in preparing findings for publication as needed.
  • Contribute to drafting of procedures, presentations, and proposals.
  • Support routine lab maintenance, manage inventory and safety records, and provide general laboratory assistance.
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new staff or students on lab procedures or techniques.

Requirements

  • Solid grounding in scientific principles with demonstrated ability to apply knowledge when required.
  • Proven ability to apply theoretical scientific knowledge to problem solving.
  • Ability to maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
  • General computer proficiency and the ability to rapidly learn and master software, databases, and scientific tools.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with general guidance.
  • Strong organizational skills and a track record of accurate, detail-oriented work.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, and perform fine motor tasks; engage in desk-based computer work and telephone use; write by hand; lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulder level; sort and file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls.
  • Must have corrected vision to perform duties of the job.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a dusty, dirty, and odorous environment.
  • Position may require repetitive motion.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • May require working in close proximity to blood borne pathogens.
  • May require work in environments where animals are used for teaching and research.
  • Position may involve areas where hazardous materials and infectious diseases are present.
  • Tasks may require personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, protective clothing and gloves, and possibly a respirator.
  • May require extended or unusual work hours based on research requirements and business needs.
