Job Description

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) is seeking a Research Data Analyst - Policy to implement and contribute to planning and execution of medium- to large-scale, complex research data analysis components for ETS researchers, testing program areas, and external clients. This onsite role is based in Princeton, NJ.

Role Summary

You will support systems development, documentation, proposal support, and evaluation or implementation of data analysis methodologies. The position includes designing, modifying, developing, documenting, and implementing technologies used to execute research and development data analyses at scale, while identifying unusual situations and developing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and contribute to planning assigned data analysis components for medium- to large-scale, complex research projects, including development of complex data analysis systems.
  • Consult with senior data analysis staff on application, modification, and design of systems using established technologies across diverse fields.
  • Contribute to planning the schedule of tasks required to complete major components of large-scale, complex data analyses.
  • Work effectively as part of a team with researchers, testing program areas, and external clients, contributing to team discussions and decisions.
  • Analyze, design, modify, develop, document, and implement technologies for executing medium- to large-scale complex research and development data analyses and methodologies.
  • Identify unusual data analysis situations and problems and develop solutions.
  • Consult area- or division-wide on technology development for executing medium- to large-scale complex research and development data analysis projects and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the evaluation, implementation, and support of new hardware, software, and data analysis methodologies that support research system development.
  • Contribute to preparation of data analysis components of proposals and cost or resource estimates.
  • Maintain continuing awareness of recent advances in numerical analysis, computer science, and statistical technologies.
  • Assist with area-wide staff training and development initiatives through one-on-one mentoring and/or small group training exercises.
  • Implement technical documentation components for data analysis systems, solutions, and results, and may develop full technical documentation.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Competence with data management and analysis packages including R, Pythong, Stata, or SAS.
  • Ability to apply knowledge with minimal supervision; advanced knowledge may be required for selected projects.
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Statistics, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience providing comparable knowledge and abilities.
  • 4 to 5 years of diverse experience in data analysis, including increasing complexity and diversity across research and development data analyses.

  • The advertised base salary range for this position is $76,000 - $86,000, and base pay offered may vary based on internal equity, geographic region, and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay is one component of the Total Rewards Package.
