Senior AI Engineer

Sweet James is building practical AI that supports real casework. As a Senior AI Engineer, you’ll own AI features end to end, from learning how teams work today to deploying production systems that read documents, extract key facts, and help staff complete routine tasks with human approval.

Location: Newport Beach, CA (onsite)

What you’ll be building

• Production AI features for structured extraction, classification and routing, and case search.
• Agents that draft routine work for staff approval, using case history to support consistent answers.
• AI workflows for document reading and filing, including extracting facts from medical records and police reports.
• Integrations that connect AI outputs to the firm’s systems, including Salesforce/Litify and collaboration tools via Microsoft Graph (Outlook, SharePoint).
• Connections to Zoom, Twilio, Retell, and DocuSign as needed for case and document workflows.

How you’ll ship safely and improve quality

• Create evaluation sets and tests so changes to models or prompts are measured on facts captured, facts missed, wrong answers, cost, and speed before release.
• Deploy services as containers on Azure, monitor them, and resolve issues when they break.
• Work directly with intake, case management, records, and litigation staff before automating tasks, then train teams on what you ship.
• Document each system so anyone on the team can run it.

What we need

• 5+ years building production software, including 2+ years shipping LLM-powered features to real users.
• Experience turning ambiguous problems into shipped outcomes with little supervision, with a track record of finishing what you start.
• Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (such as Anthropic and OpenAI) across prompt design, tool use, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation.
• Strong Python or TypeScript/Node (both preferred), plus SQL, Postgres, REST APIs and webhooks, Git, Docker, and cloud deployment (with Azure preferred).
• Care with sensitive data and the ability to explain technical work in plain language.

Helpful experience

• Vector search (for example pgvector), evaluation frameworks, and agent frameworks or the Model Context Protocol.
• Automation platforms such as n8n.
• Salesforce APIs and SOQL (Litify is a plus).
• Voice AI or telephony, including Retell and Twilio (Zoom is also relevant).
• OCR and document processing experience, especially with legal, insurance, or healthcare data.
