Job Description

Velir is hiring a Senior Analytics Engineer (remote, New York, NY) to lead scalable analytics data models and pipelines that produce clear, trustworthy insights.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex technical implementations, shaping data architecture and transformation pipelines with a focus on performance, maintainability, and reusability.
  • Drive adoption of dbt development best practices, including testing and CI/CD, while mentoring peers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance.
  • Contribute to internal tooling, shared dbt packages, and scalable frameworks that raise the bar for analytics engineering across teams and clients.
  • Partner with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to turn complex and often ambiguous business requirements into well-structured data models and semantic layers.
  • Act as a technical and strategic advisor in cross-functional planning, balancing stakeholder needs, data governance, and long-term scalability.
  • Communicate and mentor across teams, helping other Analytics Engineers and cross-functional teammates build clarity and confidence in data architecture decisions.
  • Lead end-to-end delivery of analytics engineering workstreams, ensuring solutions are reliable, well-documented, and aligned to client objectives.
  • Identify and resolve systemic data quality or modeling issues using durable fixes that improve trust and efficiency across the stack.
  • Enable sustainable delivery by optimizing performance, reducing technical debt, and contributing to shared standards that scale.

Requirements

  • Programming languages such as SQL and Python.
  • Business intelligence platforms such as PowerBI and Sigma.
  • Expert proficiency in dbt (required).
  • Expert proficiency in data modeling approaches and philosophies, e.g., Kimball and OBT.
  • Expert proficiency with at least one cloud data warehouse, e.g., Snowflake or BigQuery.
  • Expert proficiency with version control and git.
  • Knowledge of common data integration patterns such as CDC and ELT.
  • Knowledge of data integration or orchestration platforms such as Fivetran, Dagster, or Apache Airflow.
  • Ability to communicate in professional proficiency in English, verbally and in writing.

Bonus points

  • Experience using AI or automation tools to enhance analytics engineering workflows, including testing, documentation, or performance optimization.

Compensation

$135,000 - $150,000 USD per year

  • Compensation packages are finalized after the interview process is concluded.
  • Base pay uses a competency-based approach based on demonstrated skills for this role.
