Senior Analytics Engineer
Job Description
Granola is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to help build and scale its business data foundation in a hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA. This position blends analytics engineering and data engineering to ensure reporting and decision-making across the company are powered by reliable data, consistent metrics, and dashboards that leaders and operators can act on.
In this role, you will partner with data, Go-to-Market, and Finance teams to turn data from multiple systems into clean, trustworthy datasets. You will improve the modeling layer, strengthen data quality practices, and support self-service analytics through clear definitions, documentation, and BI-ready outputs.
What you’ll do
- Build and scale the business data foundation: work with the existing data team so data lands reliably in the warehouse and is available when the business needs it.
- Develop and improve dbt models: create clean, intuitive datasets by transforming data from across Granola’s systems into structures people can confidently use.
- Strengthen data quality and reliability: establish testing, monitoring, alerting, and documentation practices to catch issues before end users are impacted.
- Create trusted core metric definitions: partner across teams to define the metrics that matter, codify those definitions in data models, and improve consistency across dashboards and tools.
- Deliver actionable dashboards: turn business questions into analyses, dashboards, and recommendations that explain what is happening, why it is happening, and what to do next.
- Improve discoverability and usability: enhance documentation, naming, and tooling so teams can find data, understand authoritative sources, and see how entities and systems connect.
What you’ll need
- 8+ years of experience across analytics engineering, data engineering, business intelligence, analytics, or similar roles.
- Expert SQL and substantial hands-on experience building and scaling production data models in dbt.
- Strong understanding of the modern data stack, including ingestion, transformation, data quality, monitoring, and business intelligence.
- Experience designing clean, scalable data models that combine information across multiple operational systems.
- Proven ability to build intuitive dashboards and support self-service reporting in BI tools such as Omni, Looker, or Tableau.
- Track record of working through ambiguous questions to produce structured analysis, clear conclusions, and recommended actions.
- Strong collaboration skills with functional leaders, including translating business problems into technical requirements.
