Job Description

Wake Forest University is hiring a Senior Analytics Engineer to partner with campus stakeholders and modernize analytics toward an AWS lakehouse architecture and Microsoft Fabric.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders across campus to understand questions before defining solutions (requirements gathering as an ongoing conversation)
  • Advise on data architecture, data management, and governance practices for units building their own analytics capability
  • Coach and support customers through implementation and adoption
  • Design and develop end-to-end data pipelines, models, and analytic products across source systems, including Workday (SIS, Finance, HCM)
  • Write SQL that is complex, performant, and readable enough for long-term maintainability
  • Build and tune curated data layers using AWS Lake Formation/Athena and Microsoft Fabric
  • Deliver reporting through Power BI and other analytics tools
  • Own solutions through the lifecycle: discovery, design, build, test, deploy, support, and iterate
  • Help transition integration work from SnapLogic toward spec-driven development in Python with AI-assisted tooling
  • Contribute to decisions on future warehouse direction by evaluating Redshift and Snowflake
  • Support responsible retirement of legacy reporting in Cognos without disrupting current users
  • Scope and contribute to AI projects, separating improvements that genuinely advance work from those that only look effective

Requirements

  • 5+ years hands-on experience building a data warehouse, data pipeline, or analytics solutions in a professional setting
  • Strong SQL: ability to write, debug, and optimize complex queries against large datasets
  • Working proficiency in Python, or clear evidence you can get there quickly
  • Experience with a cloud data platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern warehouse or lakehouse patterns
  • Experience building reports and dashboards in a modern BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, Cognos, Looker, or similar)
  • Ability to translate between technical and non-technical audiences, with patience for stakeholders who are not data professionals
  • Self-starter approach: pick up ambiguous problems, ask good questions, and make progress without a task list
  • Genuine interest in learning technologies not yet used
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred

  • Experience with Workday, particularly Prism or Reports
  • Higher education experience, or experience with student, finance, or HR data domains
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, AWS Lake Formation, or Athena
  • Integration platform experience including SnapLogic, Informatica, Fivetran, dbt, or Airflow
  • Practical experience applying LLMs or AI agents to engineering or analytics work
  • Experience with data governance, data quality, or master data management

  • Individual contributor role working as part of a team and applying established standards while developing skills
  • Guidance and direction provided by senior team members and management on more complex tasks
