Job Description
Rippling’s Payments Data & Analytics team is building analytics and reporting capabilities that bring clarity to every stage of the payments money-movement lifecycle. As a Senior Data Analyst - Payments (internal title: Data Scientist), you will design, build, and maintain services that process large volumes of financial data and deliver visibility that supports settlement accuracy and executive-level reporting.
This role sits at the intersection of payments operations and data delivery, working closely with engineering, accounting, financial partnerships, product, and other finance stakeholders. You will help reconcile accounts, automate key reporting workflows, and respond to emerging payment issues with clear facts and recommendations.
What you’ll do
- Partner cross-functionally with engineering, accounting, financial partnerships, and product teams to analyze and account for billions of dollars flowing through the Rippling payments platform.
- Run end-to-end analyses using SQL, Python, and other scripting and statistical tools, and develop real-time metrics dashboards for key financial and operating levers.
- Monitor payment flows between systems, banks, processors, and inter-company accounts, complete daily reconciliations, and investigate discrepancies.
- Identify and address emerging issues quickly by summarizing facts and providing recommendations for timely resolution of critical financial matters.
- Work with stakeholders such as Accounting, Compliance, and Treasury to understand reporting and reconciliation needs and deliver scalable solutions, including internal tool development and/or third-party tooling.
- Create and maintain documentation for reconciliation processes and procedures.
- Provide data and reporting solutions that support month-end close, regulatory and compliance reporting, and Internal and External Audit reporting.
- Share findings and recommendations through clear, concise presentations and reports for stakeholders across technical and non-technical groups.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Data Science, Econ, Math, Business Analytics, or another related field.
- 4+ years of experience applying analytics engineering, analysis, modeling, and/or exploratory analysis to large datasets, ideally in payments processing, quote-to-cash, or financial reporting.
- Experience with data warehousing, ETL, and reporting tools including Snowflake, Tableau, dbt, and Dagster.
- Strong experience with SQL across the data science development lifecycle, from initial analysis and model development through deployment.
- Proven ability to collaborate with engineering, finance, and accounting teams to assess data needs and build automated reporting pipelines.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, including the ability to explain findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and senior leadership, including C-suite.
- Bonus: Experience with general accounting principles, the general ledger close process, and regulatory compliance.
Technologies
- SQL, Python, Snowflake, Tableau, dbt, Dagster, ETL
Location and compensation
- Location: San Francisco, CA (onsite)
- Salary: USD 114,000 - 190,000 per year (US Tier 1)
Benefits
- Competitive salary plus benefits and equity
- Reasonable accommodations for candidates with disabilities during the hiring process
