Job Description
Vital IT Services is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to design, build, and optimize secure, high-performance data pipelines and storage systems that support reliable reporting and delivery. This hybrid role is based in Allen, TX and focuses on turning business needs into practical data solutions, partnering with customer leads and internal teams from planning through deployment.
You will be responsible for the infrastructure and pipeline work that keeps data flowing accurately, performs efficiently across systems, and supports both operational applications and analytics. The position includes ownership of monitoring and validation, as well as coordination of data dependencies across external APIs, legacy databases, and cloud platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data infrastructure and automated pipelines to securely ingest, transform, and move high-volume data.
- Define and optimize data models, including relational and non-relational database structures, while tuning query performance for reporting and operational application needs.
- Own monitoring and validation of data flows to ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance.
- Map and resolve data dependencies across disparate external APIs, legacy databases, and cloud infrastructure, translating data “unknowns” into execution plans.
- Collaborate with data and development teams to support task estimating, technical documentation, and delivery data updates.
Requirements
- 5+ years of dedicated data engineering experience with large-scale production databases and high-compliance distributed data environments.
- Proven experience building complex data pipelines using heavy orchestration tools, including data extraction from complex third-party API networks.
- Deep expertise in SQL/NoSQL query tuning, data warehousing principles, schema evolution, and index optimization.
- Hands-on experience with cloud data storage architectures, including AWS and Azure, and modern data pipeline practices.
- A track record of debugging mismatched data architectures, handling breaking schema changes, and optimizing slow multi-system data jobs.
Key Technologies
- SQL, NoSQL, ETL/ELT
- AWS, Azure
- SSRS, MS Excel, Power BI
- Oracle, Tableau, Confluence
- MS SQL, Azure SQL, Azure Cosmos DB
- AS400, DB2, Jira
Measurables
- Achieve greater than 99% uptime and successful execution on automated core data pipelines.
- Maintain greater than 80% predictability on committed sprint tasks and complexity points.
- Ensure at least 90% of mid-level escalation requests are actively responded to within 30 minutes and fully unblocked within 1 business day.
- Deliver 100% weekly compliance on task logging, estimation, and database schema documentation in Confluence.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: USD 110,000 - 130,000 per year.
- Offer approach: final offer will align with experience and technical assessment results.
- Hybrid flexibility: schedule flexibility based on team project needs rather than a rigid clock-in requirement.
- Growth path: the role opened due to new client projects and initiatives, with investment in employees and client relationships.
