Software Data Scientist-Journeyman

AMEWAS, Inc. seeks a Software Data Scientist-Journeyman to contribute to Battlespace Modeling & Simulation efforts (JSE/JTB) for Department of Defense programs. The role is based onsite at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD, with a salary range of USD 100,000 to 144,700 per year. The position blends hands-on data work with system-level analysis to verify performance and inform test and execution teams.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure systems meet stringent performance criteria
• Partner with the Planning and Reporting (P&R) team to identify components and capabilities that require verification and validation
• Work with the P&R team to determine the most effective analytical approaches for complex questions
• Own system data by cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing the information
• Extract actionable insights, validate system performance, and relay findings to the Test and Execution (T&E) team

Requirements

• HS Diploma or equivalent
• 5 years of relevant work experience
• 5+ years of professional experience with Python 3.11+ in scripting, automation, and data processing workflows
• 5+ years of professional experience with Pandas and NumPy for data manipulation, cleaning, aggregation, and numerical computation
• 3+ years of experience with SQL (PostgreSQL) for data querying, modeling, and performance-optimized queries
• Familiarity with software development best practices, testing, and code quality (unit tests, integration tests, data validation checks, etc.)
• Experience designing, building, and validating data pipelines in production, research, or test environments
• Solid grounding in data science fundamentals (statistics, hypothesis testing, data cleaning, exploratory data analysis)
• Ability to work with large, complex datasets and perform data wrangling, transformation, and feature engineering
• Capacity to translate analyses into clear visual summaries and narratives for customers
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative workflows

• Additional Accesses: Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance eligibility and/or other necessary access requirements to perform duties per contract
