Sr Data Engineer
Job Description
Children’s Mercy KC is supporting grant-funded diabetes work for the Rising T1DE Alliance (RTA), where the technical and data efforts are based at Children’s Mercy. In this onsite role in Kansas City, you will help lead the ongoing technical development of the Diabetes Data Dock, a diabetes-tailored data intelligence platform used to support prediction of clinical outcomes and the ingestion and monitoring of patient-generated health data.
The Sr Data Engineer will design and maintain scalable, cloud-native data pipelines using Microsoft Azure and Databricks, with a focus on reliability, performance, and maintainability across end-to-end workflows.
What you’ll do
- Lead the design, implementation, and integration of data platform pipelines and processes by partnering with stakeholders and architects to incorporate emerging technologies.
- Deliver scalable, cloud-native data pipelines aligned with business and analytics goals, translating requirements into technical solutions.
- Own end-to-end workflow implementation and collaborate with architects to evolve platform capabilities.
- Integrate emerging technologies and optimize pipelines for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Support continuous accuracy and reliability through thorough testing and the establishment of automated testing frameworks.
- Implement monitoring tools to help ensure data accuracy and reliability, and perform debugging when needed.
- Conduct code reviews and collaborate with analysts and architects to meet business and compliance standards, continuously improving pipeline performance and maintainability.
- Maintain technical competency through professional development, cross-functional collaboration, researching modern practices, proof-of-concept initiatives, and mentoring team members.
- Participate in knowledge sharing and influence platform strategy through thought leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Healthcare Data Science (or similar) plus 3-5 years of data engineering experience, including cloud-native development, distributed systems, and data architecture (or related experience).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, or similar plus 5-7 years of data engineering experience, including cloud-native development, distributed systems, and data architecture (or related experience).

Pay
- Starting pay begins at $48.12/hr, with the final offer determined based on education and experience.
