Job Description

SchoolsFirst FCU is seeking a Statistical Data Analyst to support the development and execution of statistical models used for stress testing, capital planning, budgeting, and CECL-related needs. This onsite role in Tustin, CA focuses on quantitative analysis, validation of model performance, and clear reporting of results to management and other stakeholders.

In this position, you will work with SAS or comparable statistical systems to build, maintain, and assess models that forecast credit losses, loan originations, pre provision net revenue, and additional related measures based on macroeconomic projections and internal business assumptions.

What you’ll do

  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and execution of statistical models using SAS or comparable systems, including recommending revisions and documenting detailed analysis for stress testing, capital planning, and budgeting.
  • Update and evaluate existing statistical and predictive models to identify historical trends and forecast future performance of credit losses, loan originations, pre provision net revenue, and related measures.
  • Use projections of macroeconomic variables from the Federal Reserve and internally developed business assumptions as required by NCUA for capital planning, stress testing, budgeting, and CECL requirements.
  • Analyze models by challenging assumptions, assessing performance and robustness, writing comprehensive code, creating reporting and validation documents, and presenting findings to management.
  • Perform and document quantitative assessments across model theoretical aspects, model design and implementation, data integrity, and reliability.
  • Apply statistical techniques to analyze and interpret data, forecast outcomes, and quantify trends using processes already in place.
  • Support development of risk and regulatory reporting, including stress testing schedules and capital plan reports, presentations, and written narratives for the Credit Union’s annual capital plan submission.
  • Create reports and presentations to communicate model and analysis findings to model owners and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure data accuracy and reliability through established data checks and validations, and communicate data quality concerns to senior analysts and/or management.
  • Keep current on industry best practices and emerging trends in statistical analysis and modeling and incorporate them into day-to-day work.
  • Work closely with senior analysts and other team members to understand project requirements, data needs, and deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent years of experience required.
  • 1-3 years of prior relevant experience required.
  • Understanding of statistical methods, probability theory, data cleaning/imputation, and advanced statistical and quantitative analysis required.
  • Knowledge of a coding-based statistical language such as SAS, R, Python, or Matlab required.
  • Knowledge of SAS preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, effective communication and writing skills, and willingness to learn and adapt to new processes.
  • Data management and data mining skills, specifically with experience using SQL coding preferred.
  • Comply with regulatory compliance and assigned training requirements, including BSA regulations corresponding to job duties. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary and other employment related actions.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.

Compensation and location

  • Location: Tustin, CA (onsite)
  • Salary: USD 78,419 - 117,628 per year
