BD is seeking a Commercial Analytics Engineer to join the Business Decision Intelligence function onsite in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. The role centers on designing, building, and sustaining dashboards, reports, and semantic layer assets that empower commercial users with governed insights. The ideal candidate translates business requirements into self-service BI solutions while upholding data quality and usability, with a focus on agentic AI enabled analytics. A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and at least one year of analytics experience are expected.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain interactive dashboards and standardized reports within the enterprise BI platform to meet recurring commercial reporting needs (examples include Power BI and Tableau).
- Translate business user needs into clear, accurate visualizations aligned with approved data models and metric definitions.
- Apply consistent design standards, layout conventions, and UX best practices so reports are intuitive for non-technical users.
- Conduct unit tests and validate report outputs against source data prior to deployment.
- Build and manage semantic layer objects such as measures, dimensions, hierarchies, and calculated fields within the governed BI environment.
- Ensure semantic objects adhere to the approved taxonomy, metric definitions, and naming conventions.
- Support asset discoverability by maintaining metadata, descriptions, and documentation in the data catalog or BI platform.
- Identify and escalate inconsistencies between semantic layer definitions and source data models to senior team members.
- Elicit and clarify requirements from commercial users to ensure dashboards and reports meet analytical needs.
- Provide first-line support for BI platform questions, report issues, and data interpretation inquiries from business users.
- Assist with user acceptance testing of new dashboards and reports with business stakeholders.
- Create and maintain user guides, glossaries, and training materials to promote self-service analytics adoption.
- Monitor data freshness in dashboards and reports, flagging anomalies to the appropriate data pipeline owners.
- Participate in regular data quality reviews, logging issues and tracking resolutions per team processes.
- Support regression testing when upstream data models or pipelines change and affect existing reports.
- Adhere to team standards for version control, change management, and documentation of BI assets.
- Support the development and testing of agentic AI workflows that leverage governed semantic layer assets and BI data products for automated commercial insights.
- Assist in labeling and preparing training data from commercial analytics outputs to support AI model development and fine-tuning.
- Contribute to prompt engineering and evaluation for AI-assisted reporting, ensuring outputs align with approved metric definitions.
- Collaborate with senior analysts and Decision Science teams to validate AI outputs against BI benchmarks and data quality standards.
- Document agentic AI workflows, input/output specifications, and edge cases to support governance and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in analytics, business intelligence, or a data-focused role (or equivalent).
- Proficiency in at least one enterprise BI platform (Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or Qlik).
- Strong SQL skills for data querying, validation, and analysis.
- Familiarity with semantic layer concepts including measures, dimensions, hierarchies, and calculated metrics.
- Experience translating business requirements into reporting and dashboard solutions.
- Understanding of commercial data domains such as sales pipeline, revenue, forecasting, or customer data.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain data concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
