Job Description

The Analytics Engineer at Duke Health Technology Solutions serves as a trusted analytics partner to Nursing and Case Management leadership. The role supports operational, quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives by building reporting, analytics, and decision-support capabilities and turning complex data into actionable insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Nursing and Case Management leaders to understand business needs, prioritize initiatives, and deliver data-driven solutions aligned to strategic and operational objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor by communicating project status, risks, dependencies, and opportunities to stakeholders.
  • Design, develop, validate, document, and maintain reporting and analytics solutions focused on accuracy, timeliness, and actionable outcomes.
  • Own recurring reporting processes to ensure data integrity, consistency, thorough documentation, and dependable delivery of performance metrics and scorecards.
  • Translate complex data and analytical findings into clear insights for audiences that include frontline operational teams and senior executive leadership.
  • Support quality improvement, operational excellence, and performance improvement initiatives through analytical consultation and data-driven recommendations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve data collection practices, reporting efficiency, and operational performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Education/Training: Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or four years of equivalent technical experience required.
  • Licensure/Certification: None required. Preferred certification in development technologies, as appropriate for the position.
  • Experience by Level: Level 2 requires two years of directly related experience. Level 3 requires four years of directly related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a healthcare environment with understanding of clinical, nursing, case management, quality, and patient safety operations.
  • Experience with Epic Clarity and/or Caboodle data models.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Tableau.
  • Strong SQL development, data modeling, and analytical problem-solving skills.

Technologies

The role includes work with Clarity, Caboodle, SQL, reporting and visualization tools, GITLAB, Tableau, SSIS, IWS, Python, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, UNIX, OMOP, PCORnet, UNOS, and ETL with RW SQL.

Work Location

Durham, NC (onsite). This is a hybrid position that requires a minimum of two days per week onsite to support collaboration with Nursing and Case Management leadership.

Role Scope and Level Expectations

  • Level 1: Individual contributor working under direct supervision of Level 3 or above and collaborating as part of a team.
  • Level 2: Demonstrates advanced knowledge of the assigned domain and performs business analysis independently more than 75% of the time; develops technical requirements independently more than 75% of the time and writes/modify accurate SQL queries independently more than 90% of the time.
  • Level 3: Expert and team resource with SQL development; leads projects with minimal supervision and serves as moderator, leader, or channel owner for professional forums such as Duke Analytics Community or other networking organizations.
