Job Description

Join New York Life’s Institutional Life (IL) team to help deliver cloud-based data solutions on AWS. This hybrid role in Overland Park, KS supports the development, maintenance, and analysis of data pipelines and reporting that help teams use information confidently. You will work with established standards across data governance, security, monitoring, and quality, while collaborating with engineers, analysts, and business partners to deliver assigned solutions.

Compensation: USD 80,000 - 105,000 per year. Overtime eligible: Exempt. Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes. Sales bonus eligible: No. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using established designs, standards, and AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, Redshift, and Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Support data ingestion and transformation from approved sources, including Salesforce, REST APIs, and legacy mainframe feeds, and troubleshoot routine pipeline and data-processing issues.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries to analyze datasets and support defined business reporting and analytical requirements.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using approved visualization tools such as AWS Quick.
  • Follow established standards for data governance, security, privacy, validation, error-handling, and data quality.
  • Monitor AWS data workflows and services using established monitoring procedures, resolve routine issues, and escalate complex problems.
  • Assist with data storage, pipeline performance, reliability, and cost-optimization efforts using established practices.
  • Document technical configurations, data workflows, operating procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and business partners to understand defined requirements and complete assigned solutions.
  • Work with moderate guidance, including taking direction on new, ambiguous, architectural, or complex assignments.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, data analytics, cloud data technologies, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of core AWS data services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena, Redshift, Aurora PostgreSQL, and RDS, along with ETL/ELT concepts and data-processing practices appropriate to insurance and financial-services data.
  • Proficiency with SQL and working knowledge of Python for data processing or automation.
  • Experience with relational and/or non-relational data sources, plus the ability to create or maintain dashboards and reports using a visualization platform.
  • Understanding of basic cloud security, IAM, encryption, data quality, and governance concepts.
  • Ability to analyze straightforward technical problems using established practices and communicate technical information clearly.

  • Familiarity with AWS generative-AI services, including Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock AgentCore, for agentic or analytics use cases.
