Job Description

Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield is seeking a Data Analyst to uphold the quality, validity, and confidentiality of critical data that informs decision making and drives organizational efficiency. The role involves retrieving, analyzing, and visualizing data to generate business intelligence and forecast outcomes, with an on-site presence in Little Rock, AR.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with users and decision makers to identify data sources, required data elements, and data validation standards.
  • Combines data from multiple sources and functional areas, maintains data accuracy and integrity, and updates datasets as needed to develop statistics and methodologies for decision making and new initiatives.
  • Interprets data to uncover business trends, performs root-cause analysis of problems, and suggests opportunities for process improvement.
  • Manages ad-hoc report requests and findings to establish and refine reporting processes.
  • Participates in special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Math, Business, Data Science/Informatics, Actuarial Science, Healthcare Management, or a related field; or five years of health-related, non-clerical experience in insurance, managed care, or healthcare technology if the degree is not held.
  • Minimum three years of data analytics experience, including data extraction, data manipulation, repository building, and data interpretation; or a master’s degree in a related field with at least one year of data analytics experience.
  • Experience with relational databases and query tools such as SAS, SQL, AQT, and MS Windows-based query software.
  • Experience applying data management and analysis tools including MS Access, SAS, R, S+, SQL, or Cognos (preferred).
  • Core competencies include process information, deductive reasoning, category flexibility, case-based reasoning, problem solving, report creation, report processing, and report presentations, along with objective-focused, strategic thinking, critical thinking, organizing, prioritization, and planning activities.
  • Proficiency with MySQL and IBM Cognos Impromptu, and capability in mathematical reasoning, information collection, and effective written and interpersonal communication.

This position is identified as level three (3). The incumbent must ensure the security and confidentiality of records and information to prevent substantial harm, embarrassment, inconvenience, or unfairness to any individual whose information is maintained, in alignment with the company’s Administrative Manual.
