Job Description

The State of South Carolina invites applications for a temporary Data Analyst role focused on a major grant funded initiative. This on site position reports to the AVP for Student Success & Retention and is based at the Midlands Technical College Airport Campus in Lexington County, SC. The role offers a salary range of USD 65,000 to 70,470 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree in data analytics, statistics, social sciences, education, business, or a closely related discipline.

Summary

The Data Analyst leads the collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of student success data linked to a multi-year grant program. The incumbent provides data-backed recommendations and ensures adherence to grant requirements, supporting strategic decisions and reporting obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, management, analysis, and interpretation of student success data in support of a major, multi-year grant-funded initiative.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs, Assessment, Research, and Planning (ARP), and student support units to ensure data accuracy and timeliness that inform strategic decisions and demonstrate grant compliance.
  • Perform data collection and validation activities.
  • Conduct analysis and prepare reporting deliverables.
  • Provide survey administration support as needed.
  • Coordinate with grant leadership to align data activities with project goals and reporting requirements.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in data analytics, statistics, social sciences, education, business, or a closely-related discipline.
  • Professional experience involving the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of quantified data.
  • A master's degree in statistics may be substituted for the required work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing student data related to enrollment status (full-time/part-time, traditional/non-traditional, international), academic performance, and outcomes such as persistence, retention, and graduation.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and data analysis tools; comfort working with multiple data systems and file formats.
  • Experience preparing clear written reports, dashboards, or summaries that communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with academic leaders, student services staff, and technology partners to identify data needs, ensure data quality, and support continuous improvement.
  • Familiarity with retention management software, survey tools, and/or student information systems; experience with institutional research or assessment functions is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, meet grant reporting timelines, and maintain audit-ready documentation.
