Data Engineer

Join EXL Service in Philadelphia, PA (onsite) and help strengthen enterprise data platforms for a telecom client. In this Data Engineer role, you will focus on ETL reliability, ongoing platform improvements, and cross-team coordination to ensure stakeholders receive high-quality data solutions that perform well in production.

What you’ll do

• Improve stability and availability of enterprise data platforms by owning ETL operations, infrastructure support, stakeholder request handling, and process optimization.
• Oversee daily ETL workflows, troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventive actions to reduce repeat incidents.
• Evaluate technical requirements and code changes, support testing and deployment of enhancements, and coordinate with vendors and upstream teams to incorporate source system changes.
• Monitor database and server performance, including capacity and resource utilization, and proactively address bottlenecks or emerging constraints.
• Keep operational documentation up to date and manage client communication through status updates, stakeholder alignment, and risk escalation when needed.

What you bring

• 3 to 5 years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, ETL Development, or a related field.
• Strong hands-on SQL skills, including experience supporting production ETL workloads.
• Proven experience with ETL operations, production support, incident management, and root cause analysis (RCA).
• Sound understanding of database performance tuning, server resource management, and capacity planning; SQL Server experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with client teams and operate in ambiguous situations.
