Location is Hartford, CT (onsite). The position emphasizes Snowflake expertise to evolve Travelers' analytics landscape while working within a team that supports growth and cross-functional education on data products and analytic environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build and operationalize complex data solutions, diagnose issues, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing and quality improvements.
  • Design data solutions and evaluate sources to determine value and what data to include in analytics processes.
  • Incorporate core data management practices including governance, security, and data quality.
  • Collaborate across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytics environment.
  • Analyze data and systems to identify defects and incidents of moderate complexity and implement appropriate resolutions.
  • Test data movement, transformation code, and data components to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Snowflake DBA responsibilities: manage warehouses, RBAC, resource monitors, and tuning.
  • Enforce role-based access control and least-privilege security across platforms.
  • Lead data governance efforts including classification, tagging, and lineage tracking.
  • Work with security and compliance teams to maintain platform posture; audit access logs and respond to requests.
  • Platform support and administration across Snowflake, Databricks, and AWS-based services; configure environments and manage access.
  • Troubleshoot CI/CD and HSP pipeline issues; monitor and optimize platform performance and cost.
  • Develop and maintain dbt models, Python pipelines, and Terraform infrastructure as code; write advanced SQL for analytics use cases.
  • Contribute to reusable frameworks and internal tooling; collaborate with dev, analytics, and product teams.
  • Onboard new projects, mentor teams, lead workstreams, and review vendor deliverables to ensure standards alignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
  • Six years of related experience.
  • 4–7+ years in data engineering or analytics engineering.
  • Proven Snowflake DBA or platform administration background.
  • Experience with data governance, security, and access control frameworks.
  • Experience collaborating with vendor/contract resources and providing technical oversight.
  • Mentorship or informal leadership experience.
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Snowflake DBA-level expertise strongly preferred.
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Alation, DataHub, Unity Catalog, or Snowflake-native tools.
  • Terraform for cloud resource provisioning (IaC).
  • CI/CD pipeline knowledge and troubleshooting.
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate coding, debugging, and documentation; comfortable integrating AI into workflows.
  • Python for pipeline scripting, automation, data transformation, and API integrations with clean, maintainable code.
  • Databricks experience including workspace and cluster management, notebook-based development, and Delta Lake familiarity.
  • dbt project experience, including models, tests, sources, macros, and documentation.
  • AWS basics covering S3, IAM, Lambda, and Terraform; AWS Cloud Practitioner certification or hands-on experience.
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
  • The ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace and decompose work into small releases; participate in tradeoff discussions.
  • Strong domain expertise and in-depth knowledge of the systems you work on.
  • Proven problem solving and debugging skills to identify issues in unfamiliar code or systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication across technical and business audiences.
  • Intermediate leadership capabilities with self-motivation for personal growth.
  • Clear communicator in mixed internal and vendor environments; self-directed with strong ownership; collaborative mentor.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and mentor others.
