Data Scientist

As a Data Scientist with CACI at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) in Bethesda, MD, you will support the expansion of maintenance detection algorithms for Boeing F/A-18 aircraft. This onsite role focuses on anomaly detection and machine learning models that help inform maintenance actions and support Navy fleet readiness.

Role Scope

The position centers on developing data-driven approaches to identify unusual aircraft behavior and detect component failures or malfunctions. You will work with aircraft sensor data, maintenance records, and operational information to build models that can contribute to more effective maintenance workflows.

Responsibilities

• Collect, clean, and preprocess large datasets from aircraft sensors, maintenance logs, and operational data.
• Develop clean, efficient, and scalable code using best practices and coding standards to support maintainability and long-term application performance.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies in aircraft performance and maintenance datasets.
• Design and implement anomaly detection algorithms to identify unusual behavior within aircraft data.
• Create machine learning models aimed at detecting component failures or malfunctions.
• Collaborate with Aerospace Engineers, Software Engineers, Maintenance Personnel, and other project stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Science.
• 0-3 years of job experience.
• Strong knowledge of MATLAB and Python.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
• Candidate must be a US Citizen and able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.

Tools and Technologies

Preferred

• Active DoD Secret clearance.
• CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Experience with PowerBI and SQL.

Clearance and Travel

• Minimum clearance required to start: Secret.
• Travel requirement: Up to 10%.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is USD 66,700 - 133,300 per year.
