Data Scientist/Sr Data Scientist, Customer Analytics
Job Description
American Airlines is hiring a Data Scientist / Sr Data Scientist to drive customer analytics that turn data into actionable insights for Sales and Revenue.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage projects to build and enhance data, models, and analytic processes supporting Sales and Revenue
- Collaborate with internal and external partners, including vendors and other teams within American Airlines
- Use databases and programming languages to process data and run statistical analysis
- Define and implement best practices across business process improvement, data governance, and automated solutions
- Own validation, data cleansing, maintenance, and strengthen data integrity against business rules and standards
- Stay current on industry solutions and help ensure AA leads the analytical space to improve competitiveness
- Bridge raw data and business strategy by applying statistics, programming, and machine learning to solve complex problems using large datasets
- Collect, clean, and organize large, complex datasets for reliable analysis
- Translate technical findings into actionable business strategies and present results to stakeholders
Requirements
- Master’s degree plus 2+ years of equivalent practical experience in a quantitative discipline (Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, etc.)
- Experience with Machine Learning, Data Science, and AI-driven techniques (listed multiple times in requirements)
- Proficiency with at least one programming language: Python, R, or Java
- Hands-on experience with data extraction, cleaning, and analysis
- SQL experience
- Data visualization experience (example provided: Tableau)
- Experience in the airline, aviation, or transportation industry
- Experience with Cloud Computing and/or Distributed Computing (example provided: Databricks, Spark, AWS)
- Experience with Microsoft Azure including storage accounts, service principal, Azure Data Factory, and active directory
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to perform customer data analysis using complex data sets
- Inquisitive, out-of-the-box mindset focused on improving and innovating with data science solutions
- Strong leadership, communication, creative thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to move projects forward within time constraints
- Capable of working cross-functionally and communicating with diverse business groups
