Job Description

State Farm's Central Claims Data team is seeking a Lead Data Engineer / Data Engineer in Bloomington, IL (hybrid) to support IBM Db2 claims data and contribute to ECS modernization on AWS.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with peers to manage and support IBM Db2 claims data and the tooling, applications, and services used to administer the data, database, and tables in TEST and Production environments.
  • Serve as a bridge in the Enterprise Claim System (ECS) modernization effort between the current data environment and the target modernized environment.
  • Identify, develop, and support services, utilities, and tooling needed to manage and maintain claims data on Aurora Postgres.
  • Apply industry standard languages and frameworks across coding, testing, security, DevOps, DataOps, and data engineering practices.
  • Develop and maintain reusable, scalable, and compliant data solutions across multiple platforms and compute environments.
  • Establish business domain knowledge for existing State Farm data sources in ET P&C Claims.
  • Identify emerging technologies and core systems, including techniques, tools, data sources, and platforms in the data engineering field.
  • Demonstrate a DataOps mindset and leverage automation to deliver quality data solutions.
  • Prototype and experiment to validate technical direction and inform decision making.

Requirements

  • 2-3 years of experience as a data engineer or in a related role.
  • Foundational understanding of mainframe and relational database concepts, database performance, COBOL, JCL, stored procedures, and SQL.
  • Experience managing and supporting enterprise data on Db2, PostgreSQL, and/or Aurora Postgres.
  • Working knowledge of programming languages such as Python and version control tools (GitHub/GitLab).
  • Experience with Data DevOps, including automation of database management using Flyway or Liquibase.
  • Experience with version control, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines to enable repeatable deployments of data schemas and infrastructure.
  • Experience with enterprise data migrations or modernization efforts is a plus.

  • Salary range: USD 97,000 - 160,000 per year; starting salary based on skills, background, and experience; higher end reserved for substantial relevant experience.

Work Arrangements
