Principal Geospatial Data Scientist
Job Description
MITRE is seeking a Principal Geospatial Data Scientist to support the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) Enterprise Geographic Information System (EGIS) platform, with work focused on geospatial data science and modernization of a unified Kubernetes-based ArcGIS Enterprise environment.
Responsibilities
- Support geospatial data science, modeling, analysis, visualization, and engineering deliverables for sponsor projects and programs, internal R&D, and corporate strategic initiatives
- Stay current on open-source, industry, academic, and U.S. Government techniques and tools across geospatial data science, modeling, analysis, visualization, and engineering
- Apply spatial data science methods to address customer challenges, including:
- Geospatial statistics
- Spatial optimization
- Spatial pattern analysis
- Geospatial artificial intelligence
- Spatial autocorrelation
- Activity-based intelligence
- Imagery analysis
- Remote sensing
- Geospatial data visualization approaches
- Build and test geospatial prototypes in MITRE, government, and commercial cloud environments
Requirements
- Minimum experience requirement (typically):
- 10 years with a bachelor’s degree, or
- 8 years with a master’s degree, or
- PhD with 5 years of relevant hands-on experience using Geospatial Information Science techniques
- Applied experience with common GIS tools, including developing geospatial workflows and producing maps, charts, and visualizations
- Familiarity with geospatial data architectures, spatial database design and management, and containerization concepts
- Experience leading technical development across multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience using ArcGIS and Esri capabilities for analysis
- Applied experience in GIS enterprise requirements management
- Experience leading or conducting research
- Active Top Secret/SCI with CI polygraph U.S. Government security clearance
- Ability to be on-site minimum 4 days a week
- Experience with data architecture containerization concepts, such as Docker or Kubernetes

Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Geospatial Data Science, Geospatial Intelligence, Geographic Information Systems, GeoInformatics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical discipline
- Experience with data architecture containerization concepts, such as Docker or Kubernetes
- Applied experience in architecting, resourcing, deploying, and administering a GID enterprise, including physical and virtual machines, cloud-based components, and remote application delivery serving hundreds of users
- Applied experience applying spatial modeling and analysis techniques to domains including atmospheric, climate, marine, oceanic, hydrologic, geomorphologic, critical infrastructure, transportation, network, telemetry, or terrain
- Applied experience maintaining multiple enterprise relational database management systems hosted in MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar

Compensation and Location
- Salary range: $171,000 - $256,000 annually (midpoint: $213,500)
