Yale University in New Haven seeks a Senior Clinical Data & Analytics Engineer to drive SQL-based analytics, reporting, and business intelligence for Yale Medicine Clinical Practice, Finance, Revenue Cycle, and operations. Responsibilities
- Provides technical leadership in complex domains and guides major initiatives, developing large-scale programs and systems.
- Leads the design and delivery of applications, programs, and systems; assesses departmental processes and needs; ensures stakeholder end-user requirements, timelines, and budgets are met.
- Defines quality assurance and unit testing strategies to ensure high-quality solutions; leads collaborative planning, development, and implementation of business solutions; performs complex problem solving.
- Offers technical guidance to leadership; leads recommendations, project definitions, and the development of technical designs and documentation, including architectural design, technology choices, and methodologies; creates and manages project plans.
- Oversees ongoing maintenance and support for applications and systems; interfaces with vendors to resolve major software issues; makes final decisions on hardware and software purchases.
- Drives the development of system documentation; develops formal design proposals and cost and time estimates for new systems.
- Mentors technical staff and provides training for end users.
- Recommends and establishes new policies and best practices.
- Keeps current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies; contributes to programming standards, procedures, and methodologies.
- May perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong SQL programming skills with a track record of writing complex queries; proficient in SQL Server, including database objects and stored procedures.
- Experience with business intelligence tools, ideally Microsoft Power BI and Tableau.
- SAP Business Objects experience is a plus.
- Ability to independently build reports, identify data sources, design queries, and perform QA/testing.
- Able to analyze complex datasets, translate business requirements into technical solutions, and deliver accurate, actionable insights.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access, including developing and maintaining data-driven processes and workflows.
