Senior Data Analyst
Job Description
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks a Senior Data Analyst to lead the design, development, and deployment of analytics dashboards and reports that inform district decision-makers about initiative effectiveness, drawing on research, evaluation, and strategic planning to support student-outcomes governance. This onsite role is based in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Role Summary
The Senior Data Analyst provides data-driven governance support by delivering dashboards, reports, and analytic insights to inform district leadership. The role operates under general supervision and collaborates across departments to support initiatives that advance student outcomes through evidence-based decision making.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to applicable state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures.
- Develop and implement advanced data analytics models to identify key insights and actionable policy recommendations for district leadership.
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports on metrics aligned with the district's strategic goals and priorities.
- Develop, build, and maintain data dashboards in Power BI.
- Extract, clean, and compile data using data analysis tools such as SQL and Excel.
- Produce ad hoc data analysis reports as needed.
- Collaborate with CMS senior staff and educators to identify data analysis and visualization priorities.
- Query, collect, review, and analyze data for district leadership and staff.
- Work with colleagues to support data quality control and governance to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established processes and protocols.
- Analyze and report on data from external entities including the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the College Board, and ACT.
- Participate in cross-functional teams as needed.
- Support the selection and monitoring of school and district performance measures to foster continuous improvement.
- Assist the research and evaluation team in developing systems and processes for collecting, organizing, and managing student- and school-level data for research and program evaluation.
- Apply descriptive and inferential statistics to summarize and analyze data.
- Consult on and provide feedback on the analytic work of other departments.
- Support the reporting of district-wide surveys.
- Remain current in the field of data visualization and analytics.
- Perform related work as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of public school system policies and data use, including related principles and procedures.
- Strong understanding of data analytics and visualization best practices.
- Knowledge of data governance policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with quantitative research methods and statistical methodologies such as descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools including Power BI and Tableau.
- Proficient in compiling, manipulating, and analyzing data using SQL.
- Experience with statistical and graphical software such as SAS, Stata, SPSS, and Excel.
- Ability to integrate and prepare large, varied datasets from internal and external sources for analysis and visualization.
- Strong logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and ability to develop innovative solutions.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and turn it into actionable insights for decision-making.
- Ability to work interdepartmentally to determine priorities, define metrics, and share data through dashboards and reports.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to document and maintain complete, accurate records.
- Self-starting attitude with initiative and persistence; able to work with minimal direction.
