Senior Data Engineer
Job Description
Senior Data Engineer at Liberty Mutual in Indianapolis, IN (hybrid, U.S.-based) responsible for designing and building scalable data pipelines and data solutions in a cloud-based environment within the Frontier and PL Distribution space, with 2 days in the office per week in Boston, Portsmouth, or Indianapolis.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines, data models, and integration layers using modern cloud technologies (AWS, Snowflake, etc.)
- Analyze complex data sets and technical challenges to craft robust, adaptable solutions that align with business needs
- Partner with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into concrete data capabilities
- Build and support ETL and ELT processes for structured and unstructured data from internal and external sources, including APIs, flat files, and enterprise applications
- Implement data quality controls, validation logic, reconciliations, exception handling, and monitoring to ensure data accuracy
- Create automated tests across unit, system, integration, and regression scopes to verify data solution reliability
- Conduct data profiling, root cause analysis, and issue resolution across production and non-production environments
- Document data flows, data dictionaries, and technical specifications to support governance and knowledge sharing
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in data engineering processes and tooling
- Collaborate with engineers and architects, actively participating in code reviews and engineering best practices
- Leverage AI assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical or business discipline (or equivalent experience)
- 5 to 6 years of experience in data engineering, data analytics, or a related technical role
- Strong SQL skills, including writing complex queries, data modeling, and work with relational and analytical databases
- Experience with cloud based data platforms and tools such as Snowflake and AWS or similar technologies
- Solid analytical and problem solving abilities with the ability to interpret and communicate data driven insights
- Proven ability to work in an agile, squad based environment with cross-functional teams
- Proactive, self-motivated, and detail oriented thinker
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with data integration and ETL/ELT tools such as IDMC
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and software development best practices
