Sr Clinical Data Analyst

The Senior Clinical Data Analyst plays a key role in advancing quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement through the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of clinical and operational data. This position supports evidence-based decision making by ensuring data accuracy, integrity, security, and effective use across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Collect, validate, maintain, and analyze clinical and operational data from multiple sources, including Electronic Health Records (EHRs), registries, databases, surveys, and regulatory reporting systems.
• Ensure data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity through routine audits, validation processes, and quality control activities.
• Develop and maintain databases, dashboards, scorecards, and reporting mechanisms supporting quality improvement, patient safety, accreditation, and organizational performance initiatives.
• Conduct statistical analyses and evaluate trends to identify opportunities for improvement, reduce variation, and support organizational goals.
• Create reports, visualizations, and presentations that communicate findings and actionable recommendations to leadership and frontline staff.
• Monitor and report key quality, safety, patient experience, and regulatory performance indicators.
• Support hospital-wide performance improvement and patient safety initiatives through data collection, analysis, measurement, and outcome evaluation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and operational excellence.
• Assist departments with establishing performance measures, tracking progress, and evaluating the effectiveness of improvement initiatives.
• Participate in root cause analyses, performance improvement projects, and patient safety investigations as assigned.
• Support organizational readiness for accreditation, regulatory surveys, and external reporting requirements.
• Prepare, validate, and submit data required for regulatory agencies, accreditation organizations, and quality reporting programs.
• Maintain knowledge of federal, state, and healthcare reporting requirements, including CMS, The Joint Commission, NHSN, and other applicable regulatory agencies.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all applicable privacy, confidentiality, and security standards governing protected health information.
• Collaborate with clinical leaders, department managers, physicians, and support staff to develop effective data collection and reporting processes.
• Serve as a resource to departments for performance measurement, quality improvement methodologies, and data interpretation.
• Provide education and training related to data management, reporting tools, performance metrics, and quality improvement processes.
• Participate in committees, task forces, and interdisciplinary teams supporting organizational priorities.
• Maintain current knowledge of healthcare quality, patient safety, clinical analytics, and performance improvement best practices.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. Field of study: Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Statistics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related healthcare field.
• Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years in healthcare data analysis, quality improvement, patient safety, clinical informatics, performance improvement, or a related healthcare setting.
• Certifications (preferred): CPHQ (Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality), Clinical Data Management, Health Informatics, or related discipline.
• Additional certifications (preferred): Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
• Knowledge of healthcare quality metrics, performance improvement and patient safety methodologies, continuous improvement, and healthcare regulatory requirements.
• Experience working with EHRs and healthcare databases required.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, including statistical analysis and data interpretation.
• Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of HIPAA requirements and healthcare data confidentiality standards.
• Tools (preferred): Tableau, Power BI, SAS, SPSS, R, Minitab, SQL, or similar data analysis and visualization tools.
• Related experience (preferred): Supporting hospital quality improvement, patient safety, accreditation, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Reporting programs (preferred): CMS, Joint Commission, NHSN, Leapfrog, or other healthcare quality reporting programs.
• Other (preferred): Project management and change management experience.
