Grand Valley State University is seeking a contract Data Analyst to support the Office of Institutional Analysis. This onsite role in Allendale, MI focuses on modernizing data access and reporting, responding to statistical and analytic requests, and helping the office adapt to new data sources and methodologies. The position includes a salary starting at $60,000 per year (commensurate with experience) and a limited benefits package that may include medical and life insurance, along with wellness resources and a tuition waiver effective on date of hire.
What you’ll do
You will design, develop, maintain, and document online data access tools, and help ensure the office can meet routine and ad hoc data needs across campus. Core responsibilities include:
- Migrate and modernize legacy online reporting tools to a new data lake/warehouse.
- Partner with the university’s Data Advisory body to design and build new reporting tools aligned with institutional needs and priorities.
- Assist with the development and ongoing maintenance of the university’s analytic data repository.
- Collaborate on planning for how the office adapts to new demands, data sources, and methodologies.
- Respond to routine and ad hoc requests for statistical and analytic information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework in Research Methods and Statistical Analysis.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Proven ability to develop effective, responsive data visualization tools for complex data.
- Experience with Excel, SQL, data visualization tools, and programming languages such as Python and SAS.
- Ability to perform accurate, effective work with limited supervision.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize multiple assignments.
Tools and technologies
This role may involve Excel, SQL, Python, SAS, HTML, JavaScript, CSS, jQuery, data lake/warehouse environments, and data visualization tools.
Preferred experience
- Experience in the design and conduct of survey research.
- Familiarity with major university data systems: Banner, Slate, and Workday.
- Knowledge of key web design building blocks: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and jQuery.
Working conditions
- Normal office environment.
- Some travel may be required.
