Data Engineer I (Databricks, AWS, Python)

The Data Engineer I role at The Travelers Companies, Inc. is based onsite in Hartford, CT. The position focuses on designing, building, and deploying data solutions to support AI, ML, and business intelligence initiatives, leveraging Databricks, AWS, and Python.

Responsibilities

• Build and operationalize complex data solutions, address issues, apply data transformations, and propose data cleansing and quality improvements.
• Design data solutions tailored to business needs.
• Evaluate data sources to determine value and identify data to include in analytical workflows.
• Incorporate core data management practices including governance, security, and quality controls.
• Collaborate across teams to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytic environment.
• Analyze data and systems to identify defects of moderate complexity and implement appropriate resolutions.
• Test data movement, transformation code, and data components to ensure reliability.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM-related field or equivalent.
• Six years of related experience.
• Apply AI expertise with experience in OpenAI and AWS Bedrock to drive innovative projects.
• Technical proficiency in Python, SQL, AWS, Databricks, and related technologies to develop robust AI applications.
• Terraform experience to streamline infrastructure management and deployment processes.
• API design capabilities to build and implement APIs enabling seamless integrations and functionalities.
• Proficient use of cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering fundamentals.
• Ability to deliver work at a steady, predictable pace, decompose work into small releases, and contribute to tradeoff discussions.
• Demonstrated domain expertise with the ability to understand technical concepts and the systems being worked on.
• Strong problem solving and debugging skills, with the ability to identify sources of issues in unfamiliar code or systems and address repetitive problems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to interact with team members and business partners.
• Intermediate leadership capabilities with a track record of self-motivation and growth.
