Job Description
The Senior Data Engineer role at Starbucks is based onsite in Nashville, focusing on delivering enterprise data services and pipelines to enable analytics and real-time decision making. The position offers an annual salary range of USD 111,000 to 209,500 and requires at least two years of software development experience along with a Bachelor’s degree.
Responsibilities
- Develop enterprise data services that empower analytics and informed decision making.
- Design, implement, test, and support data pipelines enabling continuous data processing for data exploration, preparation, and real-time business insights, aligned with Starbucks guiding principles.
- Build and maintain highly available data pipelines across batch, distributed, and real-time processing to scale analytics capabilities.
- Translate strategic needs into practical solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements, enforce data governance and retention practices, and improve standards and reliability.
- Advance operational excellence through automation, monitoring, documentation, performance analysis, and root-cause resolution, partnering with peer support groups and vendors as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience with SQL platforms
- Two or more years with NoSQL platforms or strong exposure
- Five or more years working with Spark and or Hadoop ecosystem (Hadoop, YARN, MapReduce, Pig, Hive)
- One or more years implementing data platforms on Azure or AWS (advanced scope may align to two years)
- One or more years of experience with CI/CD tools and practices (advanced scope may align to two years)
- Two or more years exposure to SOA architecture and service integration patterns
- Proficiency in Java, Scala, or C#, with strong debugging and performance tuning abilities
- Proficiency in shell scripting, logging and monitoring practices, and enterprise deployment best practices
- Experience operationalizing big data implementations (multiple implementations preferred)
- Familiarity with Tableau or similar BI tools is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to mentor others and work effectively in Agile/DevOps environments
