Job Description
Build complaint intelligence and reporting capabilities using advanced analytics, machine learning, NLP, and LLM approaches in a compliance-focused data science role.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop modern complaint intelligence capabilities that transform complaint data into actionable insights for compliance and risk mitigation, including identification of potential customer harm
- Create and maintain a robust inventory of complaint dashboards, reporting, and analytics products using Power BI, Python, SQL, R, Excel, and PowerPoint to deliver decision-ready information to TD partners
- Apply advanced analytics, machine learning, NLP, and LLM capabilities to identify complaint trends, emerging risks, themes, root causes, and customer impact to inform compliance strategies
- Launch new complaint data products and analytical tools end-to-end: requirements gathering, design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing maintenance
- Provide oversight of 1LOD complaint data handling including complaint taxonomy, data methodology, data quality, data completeness, data lineage, controls, and data interpretation
- Translate complex analytical results from complaint data into business narratives through insights, visualizations, dashboards, and presentations tailored to different audiences
- Ensure responsible AI with human-in-the-loop approaches aligned to TD policies, procedures, and governance requirements
- Lead or complete complex initiatives requiring seasoned specialist knowledge and/or integration of cross-functional processes
- Work independently on analysis, design, and support of technical data management solutions across projects of varying complexity and size
- Perform longer-range planning for the functional area (for example, 12 months or greater) and manage/prioritize multiple projects at a time
- Partner with business owners to identify opportunities and act as an ambassador for data science
- Stay current on developments in data mining and the application of data science; provide analytical thought leadership
- Solicit and share ideas to improve business processes using data-driven insights focused on effectiveness and efficiency
- Educate the organization on hypothesis testing and statistical validation approaches, and help explain the principles and math behind the “scientist” process to support alignment
- Adhere to enterprise frameworks/methodologies related to business-area activities and ensure programs/policies/practices meet business needs and comply with internal/external requirements
- Participate in cross-functional/enterprise initiatives as a subject matter expert, including risk identification and guidance for complex situations
- Monitor service and productivity and implement continuous process/performance improvements where opportunities exist
- Lead/facilitate and/or implement action and remediation plans to address performance, risk, and governance issues
- Actively manage relationships across business lines, corporate functions, and control functions to ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
- Maintain a risk management and control culture aligned with risk appetite and support a positive team environment through timely communication
- Support knowledge transfer via mentorship, sharing best practices, and contributing to team capability development
- Support personal performance management and development activities, including cross training
- Serve as a brand ambassador for the business area/function and the bank internally and/or externally
Requirements
- 5+ years of relevant experience (higher degree education and research tenure can be counted)
- Undergraduate degree or advanced technical degree preferred (e.g., math, physics, engineering, finance, or computer science); graduate’s degree preferred with progressive project work experience
- 5+ years of experience in Data Science, Advanced Analytics, and Business Intelligence, preferably within banking or financial services
- Advanced technical and analytical expertise in Python, R, SQL, machine learning, statistical analysis, NLP, and working with large and complex datasets
- Strong business intelligence and data visualization skills, including practical experience with Power BI and/or Tableau, plus Excel and PowerPoint for executive dashboards and data summaries
- Proven experience applying AI and advanced analytics to unstructured data, including NLP, LLMs, generative AI, text classification, theme classification, and human-in-the-loop accountability best practices
- Strong capabilities in compliance, data governance, data quality, and stakeholder management
- Ability to work independently on analysis/design/support of technical data management solutions across projects
