Enrollment Data Analyst
Job Description
The University of Minnesota’s Enrollment Management and Admissions teams in Rochester rely on clear, trustworthy data to guide recruitment strategy and retention planning. In this onsite role, the Enrollment Data Analyst collects, cleans, and analyzes student information across key lifecycle areas, building dashboards and predictive insights for university leadership and Admissions Recruiters.
Working within the Enrollment Management/Admissions office areas on the Rochester campus, you will serve as a primary bridge between complex institutional datasets and decision makers who need actionable reporting. The position operates Monday through Friday during normal campus office hours, with some weekends and nights required for recruitment events or special projects.
What you’ll do
- Perform in-depth, complex statistical analyses and diagnostic analytics to support leadership decision-making, cyclical enrollment planning, and seasonal Admissions counselor efforts.
- Design, develop, and implement KPI dashboards and performance metrics aligned to recruitment and retention goals.
- Clean, blend, and restructure large, unstructured, or disparate datasets using tools such as SQL Developer, R, SPSS, Python, and Excel.
- Analyze student data and outcomes to identify likelihood to apply, to enroll, and to remain at the university.
- Design, write, and optimize complex SQL queries to extract multi-dimensional datasets from PeopleSoft and Slate systems.
- Design, publish, and maintain interactive business intelligence dashboards in Tableau to make insights available for internal and external stakeholders.
- Translate complex findings and research approaches into clear narrative briefs or presentations for non-technical audiences across campus.
- Manage a comprehensive project schedule to ensure recurring, ad hoc, and sudden data requests are completed accurately, efficiently, and in priority order.
- Collaborate with campus and university teams to develop and maintain standardized business processes, data dictionaries, and workflows that support continuity and accurate insights.
- Represent Enrollment Management on appropriate campus and system-wide committees, task forces, and workgroups.
- Conduct data audits, ensure compliance with FERPA and GDPR, and maintain accurate records.
- Work with system-wide technology groups, including Slate and PeopleSoft groups.
- Coordinate with vendors, services, and platforms to maintain appropriate data sharing for both compliance and accuracy, including timely exports and imports.
Expected contributions
- Act as a primary owner and resource for complex internal data analyses, predictive modeling, leadership enrollment reporting, and ad hoc data requests.
- Provide analyses, visualizations, and reporting cadence supporting both tactical and strategic decisions in recruitment marketing, recruiter practices, and enrollment planning.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of reporting tools, dashboards, and analyses used to inform strategy across enrollment management and campus.
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related field with 2 years of experience in data analytics; higher education enrollment management or admissions data preferred
- OR a Master’s degree in a relevant field
- OR a combination of related education and work experience totaling at least six years
- Proficiency in SQL and advanced Excel; experience with Slate (CRM) and visualization tools (Tableau/Power BI)
- Strong ability to manipulate complex datasets and communicate results to non-technical audiences
