Health Data Analyst

The Health Data Analyst at Children's Hospital Association is a domain expert in clinical coding, charge mapping, and healthcare terminology standards, delivering accurate and standardized analytics for pediatric hospitals. This role is based in Lenexa, Kansas with a hybrid in-office/remote arrangement. The position offers a salary range of USD 71,000 to 140,000 per year.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert for ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
• Support the development, maintenance, and optimization of CHA's proprietary Clinical Transaction Classification (CTC) charge code framework.
• Review and refine hospital charge to CTC mappings to enhance accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
• Apply clinical data standards such as OMOP CDM and SNOMED to back CHA analytic products and data models.
• Monitor regulatory updates, coding changes, and terminology revisions, ensuring compliance and communicating impacts to stakeholders.
• Identify gaps in terminology mapping and recommend improvements to advance data standardization.
• Provide guidance, education, and best practices on coding standards, terminology, and charge mapping.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data integrity, coding forums, and organizational objectives.
• Assist internal and external stakeholders with coding, health data submissions, and research inquiries.
• Oversee the healthcare data acquisition process to ensure timely, accurate, and complete submissions from member hospitals.
• Perform remapping to align misclassified or legacy charges with updated CTC codes.
• Investigate data quality issues arising from coding or data elements and propose actionable improvements.
• Lead data quality initiatives related to coding and classification domains.
• Develop tools, resources, and procedures with member hospitals to enhance data submission processes and coding-related projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Health Information Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of five years of professional healthcare experience with substantial exposure to classification and coding systems and data quality improvement.
• RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CHDA, CDIP, CCDS, or equivalent advanced coding certification required; additional specialty credentials are a plus.
• Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and official coding guidelines.
• Strong familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7, UB-04, FHIR) and clinical classification systems (ICD-9/10, CPT, MS-DRG, APR-DRG), including severity of illness and risk of mortality measures and quality indicators.
• Robust understanding of medical terminology, clinical workflows, and healthcare data across administrative, billing, and clinical domains.
• Experience with coding audits, CDI programs, revenue integrity initiatives, and maintenance of the charge description master is preferred.
• Proven ability to support enterprise systems, applications, or data platforms.
• Experience developing and maintaining data dictionaries and standardizing data capture, quality, and analysis processes.
• Knowledge of electronic health record systems and data analysis tools.
• Basic understanding of HIPAA and data security practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve data anomalies.
