Junior Data Analyst

MANTECH is hiring a Junior Data Analyst for a part time hybrid role based in Ashburn, VA (typically 2 to 3 days onsite per week). In this position, you will support U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) big data solutions by helping maintain reporting assets, improving data quality, and supporting ongoing analytics needs across the team.

Working under the guidance of senior analysts, you will assist with dashboards and recurring reports, perform data validation and cleaning, and contribute to documentation that helps others understand data sources and reporting processes. You will also help manage and review large volumes of sensitive and complex intelligence data tied to CBP initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Support the maintenance of existing dashboards and help generate recurring reports under senior analyst guidance.
• Perform basic data validation and cleaning to maintain accuracy and consistency in reporting.
• Assist with documenting data sources, query logic, and reporting processes to enable team knowledge sharing.
• Identify, review, and evaluate large volumes of sensitive and complex intelligence data related to CBP initiatives.
• Collaborate with intel analysts, enterprise/application architects, database architects, data scientists, and mission stakeholders.
• Support ad-hoc requests and participate in training and mentorship to build proficiency with agency data tools and methodologies.

Requirements

• Education and experience aligned to one of the following paths: AS and 4-13 years, BS and 2+ years, MS and 0-5 years, or PhD and 0-3 years in Data Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Statistics, or Mathematics.
• Coursework related to data analytics and/or prior internship experience related to data analytics.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and a strong interest in data management; familiarity with Excel including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs is required.
• Basic understanding of scripting languages such as Python or R.
• Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to follow technical instructions and communicate progress clearly with team members.
• A proactive attitude toward learning new software, tools, and agency-specific data protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
• Understanding of software engineering best practices, including Git and CI/CD.
• Experience working in law enforcement or a classified intelligence analysis environment.
• Experience working in an Agile development environment.

Clearance Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain DHS CBP suitability prior to starting this position.

• Occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets or office machinery, or to communicate with coworkers and management, which may include delivering presentations.
