Job Description

Join Mattel’s Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) and Ecommerce organization and help turn consumer and ecommerce data into insights that support business growth. This team is a key driver of Mattel’s digital transformation and global growth strategy, building engaging digital destinations through experiences like Mattel Creations, American Girl, and brand-owned ecommerce platforms. The Analyst role reports to the Manager, Consumer Data & Advanced Analytics and is based onsite in El Segundo, CA.

What you’ll do

  • Propose quantitative approaches and conduct analyses to support DTC and ecommerce decision-making
  • Apply descriptive statistical measures and develop consumer analysis that cover areas such as new vs. returning behavior, consumer cohorts, and consumer journeys
  • Clean, explore, and transform data to support consistent analysis and modeling
  • Build statistical analyses and predictive models using methods such as data cleaning, linear / logistic regression, segmentation, churn / propensity, and lifetime value (with guidance)
  • Work effectively with relational databases (examples include MySQL, Redshift, and BigQuery)
  • Use SQL to query accurately with minimal review, and develop clean, standardized code using notebooks or scripts
  • Create action-oriented visualizations and programmatic plots to tell a clear story with results, including experience designing interactive dashboards in tools such as Tableau, Looker, Power BI, and Sisense
  • Use appropriate methods for summarizing and displaying both categorical and numeric data
  • Bring a solid understanding of ecommerce business context and KPI measures such as conversion, demand, net sales, AOV, retention rate, and RFM
  • Take initiative to identify problems and provide proactive solutions, while balancing independent problem-solving with asking questions
  • Explain findings to business stakeholders with concise, actionable recommendations and quantitative evidence when needed, documenting assumptions, methodology, and results clearly
  • Manage multiple tasks by priority, schedule, and resources

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (examples: Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or another quantitative field)
  • 2+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, data science, or a related field
  • Knowledge of descriptive statistics and consumer analytics concepts such as cohorts and journeys
  • Proficiency with SQL and the ability to transform and prepare data for analysis
  • Familiarity with modeling concepts including linear / logistic regression, segmentation, churn / propensity, and lifetime value
  • Strong visualization skills, including storytelling and the ability to build interactive dashboards using tools like Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or Sisense
  • Experience producing plots programmatically (examples: matplotlib, ggplot)

Bonus points

  • Understanding of data transformation processes or ETL
  • Experience with cloud architecture (examples: GCP, AWS)
  • Prior experience in ecommerce, digital analytics, consumer analytics, or retail environments (preferred)

Tools you’ll use

MySQL, Redshift, BigQuery, SQL, Python, R, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, Sisense, matplotlib, ggplot, linear / logistic regression.

Compensation and benefits

The pay range is indicative of projected hiring range, but base pay will be determined based on work location, skills, and experience.
