The AI/ML Machine Learning Engineer role at Lockheed Martin's Space AI Talent Center focuses on applying advanced AI and machine learning techniques to tackle complex Space challenges in support of national security. This onsite position is based in Herndon, Virginia, and requires a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a cross-disciplinary team spanning research, data science, software development, physics, and mathematics.
- Apply state-of-the-art AI and ML methods to address highly complex Space problems aligned with national security objectives.
- Partner with a diverse group of professionals to drive innovation and contribute to solutions for critical space-domain challenges.
- Demonstrate advanced software development expertise with knowledge of Agentic AI and LLM technologies, AI/ML, deep learning, computer vision, modern software development practices and languages, and a strong commitment to math, science, and continuous growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field (for example Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Physics) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
- Experience with machine learning concepts and algorithms.
- Proficiency in Python and other programming languages.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Experience with agile software development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.

Compensation
The base salary is location dependent. In California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), and including Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, and Washington, DC, the range is $89,300 to $157,435. For locations outside these areas, final salary will reflect the candidate's work location. These figures are guidelines and consider factors such as scope and responsibilities, work experience, education, and key skills.
Compensation Details for Major Metropolitan Areas
In most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York, base salary ranges from $102,700 to $177,905. Final figures depend on location, scope, and credentials.
