Capital One is building responsible, reliable AI systems that support how associates work and how customers interact with the bank. As a Lead AI Engineer in New York, NY (onsite), you will help design and deliver foundation model training, large language model inference, and production-ready AI capabilities, backed by scalable, high-performance infrastructure and LLM optimization techniques.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners including engineers, research scientists, technical program managers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support AI software components such as foundation model training, large language model inference, similarity search, guardrails, model evaluation, experimentation, governance, and observability.
- Apply and integrate a broad stack of AI technologies including AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, Nemo Guardrails, and PyTorch using both open source and SaaS tools.
- Develop state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve scalability, cost, latency, and throughput in large-scale production AI systems.
- Help shape the technical vision and long-term roadmap for foundational AI systems at Capital One.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related fields plus at least 4 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies, or a Master’s degree in the same areas plus at least 2 years of experience developing AI/ML algorithms or technologies.
- At least 4 years of experience programming with Python, Go, Scala, or Java.

USD 215,200 - 245,600 per year (New York, NY).
