What is the opportunity?
Travelers' Data Engineering team builds pipelines that contextualize data for enterprise access. As a Senior Data Engineer on the Analytics Engineering team, you will accelerate the growth and transformation of our analytics landscape. You will guide team members' growth and translate complex data into user-friendly terms while designing, building, and deploying data solutions that capture, explore, transform, and utilize data to support AI, ML and BI initiatives.
What is a must have?
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related STEM field, or equivalent in education/work experience.
- 6 additional years of data engineering experience.
What will our ideal candidate have?
- Bachelor’s degree in STEM field or equivalent.
- Ten years of related experience.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Proven ETL and data pipeline experience.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, particularly for ETL development.
- Strong experience gathering requirements to whiteboard and create solutions.
- Technical Expertise & Delivery — highly proficient in cloud platforms, programming languages, and modern software engineering practices, with a track record of delivering complete solutions in a steady, predictable manner while navigating key tradeoffs.
- Domain Knowledge & Problem Solving — deep understanding of relevant technical concepts and industry trends, with the ability to build long-lasting solutions and resolve complex issues creatively.
- Communication & Leadership — strong written and verbal communicator who collaborates with team members and business partners, fosters a growth mindset, supports a safe learning environment, and proactively identifies opportunities for the team.
Responsibilities
- Build and operationalize complex data solutions, address problems, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing and quality approaches.
- Design complex data solutions, incorporating new data sources and ensuring alignment with data strategies across projects.
- Analyze complex sources to determine value and use, then recommend data to include in analytical processes.
- Incorporate core data management competencies including data governance, data security, and data quality.
- Serve as a data and technology subject matter expert within lines of business to support delivery and educate end users on data products and the analytic environment.
- Conduct data and system analysis, assessment, and resolution for defects and incidents of high complexity and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Collaborate across teams to support delivery and educate end users on complex data products and analytic environments.

Compensation
Salary range: $139,400 to $230,000 per year. This range reflects nationwide market data and may vary by scope, complexity, location, and candidate qualifications. The overall compensation package includes a comprehensive set of benefits described below.
